ACMUA Awards
The Story
ACMUA is being recognized for its outstanding engineering excellence in addressing PFCs in the public water supply. Mr. Michael Armstrong, Executive Director of the ACMUA (on the right), along with Mr. James Roberts and Ms. Stephanie DeCotiis of H2M architects + engineers, received this high honor and national recognition for the work on the Emergency PCF Treatment at the ACMUA.
Lead-up:
In 2019, new State regulations concerning PFCs were implemented, with sampling beginning the first quarter of 2021. The ACMUA was tasked with bringing their water into compliance by the end of that year. To ensure overall conformity regarding the new State rules and regulations, the ACMUA consulted with H2M architects + engineers to guide them on how to achieve compliance.
What's the latest?
On June 13, 2023, the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) hosted the 2023 Engineering Excellence Awards Gala in Washington, DC. This prestigious ceremony celebrated the year's best national engineering achievements, with the ACMUA and H2M being recognized for demonstrating exemplary engineering excellence along with the swift action to achieve State compliance on PFC chemicals.
Windup:
Congratulations to the ACMUA and H2M for the outstanding achievement in demonstrating exemplary engineering excellence in addressing PFC treatment in the public water supply!

The ACMUA has a commitment of producing the highest quality of drinking water.
ACMUA Awards
- International Toast of the Tap Contest which is an annual water tasting competition held at Berkeley Springs, West Virginia – Atlantic City water is the only (3) three time first place winner at the event.
- American Water Works Association – Second place – 1987
- Collingswood Earth Day Celebration – First place – 2001, Second place 2002.
Other Accomplishments
- The ACMUA constructed and maintains a playground (tot lot) at the corner of Virginia and Caspian Avenues. The playground was constructed in 1992 during the process of constructing the ACMUA’S Administrative office building and distribution yard. The tot lot provides recreational facilities for the younger children in the neighborhood.
- A community – wide student contest was initiated by the MUA for the design of an aging water tower. The community response resulted in a bright, vibrant design adorning this landmark. In the process, community youth were given an outlet for the creativity, and a scholarship was awarded for the design.
All the awards and accolades would be hollow trophies without the continued support of the Atlantic City community!
